Donald Trump won’t reply to Balen Shah’s viral post. Find out why Trump has no time to engage in Nepal’s politics and what this means for Nepal-America relations and self-reliance
The recent viral post by Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah has sparked a wave of discussions on Nepal-America relations, MCC, USAID, and Nepal’s shifting political landscape. His bold words directed at Donald J. Trump have captured national attention, with many wondering: Will Trump reply?
The simple answer: No.
U.S. President Donald Trump is a man of priorities, and responding to a Nepali mayor’s post is simply not one of them. Here’s why:
1. Trump is Focused on His Own Battles
• Trump is currently caught up in his presidential campaign for 2024, legal battles, and efforts to regain power in the United States.
• Engaging in Nepal’s politics or replying to a social media post is far from his agenda.
2. He Doesn’t Care About MCC or Nepal’s Politics
• Trump has always prioritized “America First”—his focus is on American interests, trade wars, and global power struggles.
• While the U.S. government may have strategic interests in Nepal through MCC, Trump himself has never shown much concern for these aid programs.
• Whether Nepal accepts or rejects MCC, it doesn’t affect Trump’s political ambitions.
3. Trump Doesn’t Respond to Everyone
• Even American politicians and celebrities struggle to get a response from Trump. Why would he reply to Balen Shah?
• His tweets and public statements are strategically aimed at political gains, not random international debates.
4. The U.S. Sees Nepal as Small & Non-Threatening
• Let’s be realistic: Nepal is not a major player in global politics.
• The U.S. is more focused on China, Russia, and the Middle East—not Nepal.
• Even though Nepal has strategic importance, Trump doesn’t see it as a priority worth discussing.
Of course! A direct response from Trump would put Nepal in the international spotlight. It would fuel discussions about:
✅ Nepal’s sovereignty
✅ U.S. foreign aid and hidden agendas
✅ The impact of MCC and USAID
But expecting a reply from Trump is wishful thinking. Even if he notices the post, he is unlikely to engage.
Instead of waiting for a reply from Trump, Nepal should focus on its own policies and self-reliance. Balen Shah’s message is powerful because it challenges Nepalese citizens to think beyond foreign aid and external influences.
The real question is not whether Trump will reply, but whether Nepal is ready to take control of its own future.
